An image from this day:  Taken on this day of this year. Badger has now left the midlands for the highlands and we rarely see one another. Before he left, we lived together a couple of times. Of all those with whom I have ever shared a residence, he was the easiest person to live with. We have been great friends since we met in 2008 at the Secret Garden Party festival, which we both attended for a mutual friend’s stag do. The photo above was taken before he moved north of the Scottish border with England and the plan remains that one day Badger will be the one to elevate our online presence to unseen levels when we launch our plan for the evolution of our online presence with the collective website. Watch this space (not this actual post, but the guerrillanature.com site in general, obviously).

There is a third option. Instead of creating friction by refusing the energy, or giving yourself the trouble of carrying it around, you can choose to accept the energy, then let it go. This does not mean taking negativity from others and then passing on the negative feelings you experience in another arena, as a lot of people do. We all have things we like to do to pass the time, but many of us rely on them for temporary release from the shackles we impose upon ourselves.

For a very long time, I used physical training as a way to channel my anger. That worked until my injuries caught up with me. It seemed that the best way to avoid getting beaten was to keep fighting. My psychological fears manifested in self-perception as a man who was physically vulnerable. These fears were based in reality. I felt that I was bullied at school. That was my perception. I remember that at the time these things were happening, people I confided in seemed not to be capable of understanding how difficult I found what I was facing. It all culminated in a bit of a hiding for me at the hands of my assailants and a bit of hiding for the assailants at the hands of my brother.

The ripples of the way I dealt with that, among many other incidents that could fairly be referred to as “micro-traumas”, created such distortion that I lost track of myself. I became obsessed with doing lots of stuff to prove how productive I was, how strong I could become and how hard I could keep going. I built up a lot of pressure on myself, which largely arose from my own view of myself as needing to do more, which I thought would help me to become more. I felt like I wasn’t enough. This is a common phenomenon. Feeling like we are not enough can mean that nothing else seems to be enough.

As above, so below; as within, so without. We can get caught in a loop of trying to fill the gaps in everything with anything so that we can stop feeling so empty. People often refer to those they consider to be insane as having lost their minds. This seems like an inaccurate way of describing it. As far as I can tell, insanity is getting lost in the mind. Sufferers’ abilities to connect with the outside world, or to exist harmoniously “within themselves”, are often hampered limitations to their perception of existence.

A track for this day: Lewis Parker – 101 Pianos (I’ve Put Out The Lights) (Masquerades and Silhouettes, Melankolic, 1998). It was today’s feature creator, James of James’ Café Bistro, who first introduced the powerful and beautiful hip-hop album, from which this track is taken, to the life I know. Never since the first revelatory listen has there been a decrease in the highest esteem with which it is still regarded.

This day’s featured creator: James Gordon of James’ Café Bistro in Leicester is locally renowned in more recent times as the founder, owner, head chef and restaurateur of this unique eatery, although he was already well regarded before setting up this delightful enterprise. He brought years of experience in other great restaurants around Leicester, including the now obsolete Dolce Vita (Narborough Road), Dino’s (Haymarket) and Jones’ (Queens Road) to a charming little side street in Leicester city centre. This distinguished cul-de-sac generally sees relatively little through traffic, either by vehicle or foot, despite being so centrally located. James is something of a dessert specialist and makes the most scrumptious sweets, but is also an excellent chef in general, creating a wide variety of deeply satisfying dishes using fresh, local ingredients, at prices that are very reasonable considering the quality and portion sizes. If you haven’t eaten here yet, it’s definitely worth a visit! There is a link to the restaurant’s Facebook page underneath the pictures below.

Don’t eat that, there’s a restaurant full of fine food at James’ Cafe Bistro , like…

A quote for this day: “Be above the negative energy of others. Refuse to allow their negativity to affect you. Instead, allow your positive energy to cancel their negative energy.” – Bohdi Sanders, The Art of Inner Peace: The Law of Attraction for Inner Peace.
