Sunny This Position 200314

A cherry tree in Leicester blooms pink, against a sky as azure as it is in Bali

An image from today: That old expression about the grass always seeming greener on the other side has recently been countered by the suggestion that it only looks greener because it’s an artificial lawn. The skies in Bali are not synthetic, they are authentic and generally bluer than the skies we tend to see in the UK. However, as shown by the image for today, the sky can be just as blue anywhere we go. As with life, whether blue skies are visible in the places we go can often be a matter of timing.

Not being dedicated to such psychologically orientated practices, having encountered both first hand and found neither adequate on its own or combined with the other, means that no recommendations are forthcoming here to limit the journey to these or any other similar systems. However, they are helpful for those who are trapped in the cycles the mind creates for itself, inasmuch as they provide an opportunity to break these cycles so that the one experiencing existence can free themselves from the bind they have unwittingly commissioned from the mind.

Someone who does not consider the process in these terms, but still recognises the benefits of therapeutic techniques based on psychological and neuroscientific theories, might propose that the process necessary for overcoming anxiety, anger, depression, or other such manifestations of existential disturbance are wholly academic. Not in the sense that they are inconsequential, but in the sense that they are all explicable through phenomenon that are demonstrable, describable, quantifiable, predictable and interpretable in terms to which we have attached preconceived notions. Semiotics is related to NLP and would also be of some relevance in the processes necessary for CBT. Attaching meaning to words is exactly the reason for their existence.

The kicker, as it were, is that our subjectivity, which is based on our perception of our experience, brings us to differing interpretations of the words we offer and receive in our lives; which, in the same cyclical fashion that permeates existence, creates our reality for us. Of course, this labelling is necessary for communication within the confines of the universe we can observe, so is essential for us to do things like, for example, writing a blog about these things.

Does that render this endeavour pointless? Of course not! We live in the material world right now. Right now is all that really exists to our earthly perception, so these labels we give things are infinitely (pun intended) helpful when trying to break the cycle that is based on the use of the very same labels so that we can affect our existence in the way we know is best. How will the mechanisms be comprehended if one isn’t in full awareness of the language used to build them?

What this doesn’t account for is the possibility that there’s more going on than just flesh, blood, brains and our limited comprehension of what we have tried to explain with (that concept we refer to all the) time. So, back to the third choice (Tuesday 10th March). We have to decide what to do with the energy being offered to us at any time.

If a person seems intent on getting a reaction from us, but we do not wish to play their game, we can always choose to avoid getting caught in the ego battle. This can in the opinions of most people be done entirely through training the mind.

The third choice, as it was labelled previously, will more frequently be referred to henceforth as the third option.
