Most people have their existence theories. Most of these theories have been based on ideas written down by some people and interpreted by other people, invariably with a bias. How can we rely on such sources for answers about our own existence? We are alive. We have consciousness. Why does our search for explanations focus on the outside?
Quite simply, we have learned that how we learn is through words. It is hoped that anyone reading this will be able to tell that it is not written by a person who has a problem with words. Yet again we encounter the cyclical nature of things. Yet again we notice the letting go process. You see, being reasonably competent with words has been helpful in coming to realise that, even when they seem to provide sufficient explanations, the explanations will be based on a framework of beliefs with little logical foundation.
When it comes to Christianity, for example, how can one explain an omniscient, omnipotent, infinite God using a language created by beings that are so inferior in their comprehension of existence? If the God is that great, how can it be explained in words? Faith can be very helpful for humans who wish to live a peaceful existence. Each of these humans always has options. They can decide to believe what they have previously believed because that’s what they’ve been told and that’s the construct they have chosen to follow through apathy. They can take the option of defecting to a different system because they think that one is more correct than another based on their calculations. They could also decide to stop looking for answers from outside of themselves any more than they look for the answers internally.
Why would one choose to have faith in something that they needed explaining to them by a third party? Why does one theory have to be wrong and another right? If God is everywhere, that means in us too. We know what is “right” or “wrong” without having to label it, categorise and explain it. Lots of people seem to think that being “woke” puts them in a position where those that they don’t consider to be “woke” must be incorrect. If someone writing an article suggested that those who consider themselves so “woke” are “wrong” to do this, it could be interpreted as the author falling into the same trap.
Regardless of what we know about language, we must first let that go to experience objective truth. Regardless of what we know about religion, how can we claim objectivity of a perspective that we have chosen to label “my truth”? Like the vocabulary we use, our faith is a choice. If we want to really understand our existence, trying to explain it in words will keep us trapped in the mind.
What do you think is the difference between someone who lives “spiritually” on the basis of unquestioned, or subjectively questioned, doctrines and someone who aims for true objectivity?
