Despite heavy-handed tactics from Leicestershire Police and staff from other forces, who were drafted in on Tuesday 2nd May as part of a concerted effort to disperse them, activists still occupy a stretch of road in what is being referred to as The Siege.
During and following the Tuesday raids on the gathering, 33 protestors were arrested. The conditions of their bail stipulate that they are now prohibited from attending the protest site, but others have stayed strong in their conviction that they will remain in position for as long as they possibly can.
The police have now unblocked Meridian way, which had been entirely obstructed by a metal wall (see image at top of screen) directly outside the factory to prevent protestors from reaching the gates of the drone manufacturing facility that they are aiming to shut down. The demonstrators insist that it the factory produces weapons that are tested on innocent civilians.
Although spirits remain high among those who are still at the demonstration, with newcomers still arriving even after the coronation ceremonies were over, it is unclear if or when the authorities might make attempts to clear the site.
Until further notice, the area around the UAV Tactical Systems factory on Meridian Industrial Estate in Leicester will be occupied by those who aim to prevent it from continuing to operate.
