What a cracking night at Oasis Lounge, Narborough Road, Leicester, on Friday 15th December!
The local legend that is Rich Bee invited the awesome up and coming Shadeemus to Leicester and the idea couldn’t really have flown much better.
This brilliant band showed how they have earned their reputation, wowing the crowd with their unique sound in the most congruent of settings. As much as it defies conventional categorisation, what Shadeemus create might best be described as a heady concoction of delectable guitar and dulcet vocals over delicate beats, which brings together elements of jazz, soul and funk, among other genres. The effect is floaty, serene and delightful.
Despite the gentle touch, Shadeemus brought a lot of powerful energy to the room and so did those who came to witness. There was a real buzz about the place as enthralled revellers danced and wooed, applauded and cheered, to the complementary rhythms and melodies.
A testament to how enjoyable this experience was can be found in the fact that the duration of the set didn’t even register. It could have been twenty minutes, it could have been over an hour. However long it did last, it was over far too soon.
The front member of the band, Demi Gosh, was gone before there was opportunity to get his signature on the inside sleeve of the vinyl they were selling. He was apparently on a tight schedule as he made a return to his native Dublin for a festive get away from his current residence in London. The other two members of the band are Adam Martin, who plays lead guitar and Scott Xylo, who plays bass and takes the lead with production. They were both very accommodating in signing the sleeve and in answering questions which, by the following morning, had evaporated from memory along with the answers to them.
What remain are the recollections as described above, along with the certainty that the venue will be visited again and, if the name of the band appears again, that they will also be getting another visit –not only to get that signature from Demi, either!
This night was held under the banner of ‘Freetown Jazz’ at Oasis Lounge, Narborough Road, Leicester, as organised by Rich Bee. If you haven’t been there yet, a visit is heartily recommended.
If you do decide to visit, whatever the night , please bring your most genuine smile and most generous disposition, so that the vibes continue to build on the kindness and warmth that underpinned everything on this unforgettable occasion.
