This afternoon, one was not prepared to,

But was glad for the offer of a truce,

It takes two and I knew,

That you had been suffering too,

Being tough was something we both felt we had to do,

But a decade? Stupidly stubborn,

Truly we’re brothers,

Even if the blood shared is only on our mother’s side,

And you were forty nine at the same time,

As I was thirty five we were tight,

Until we gave way to pride,

It feels so nice to set our differences aside,

Mum is so delighted to be advised,

That we’ve reconciled, reunited,

See you in the new year, Isiah, Zacharia,

We know why we both empathise,

With the plight of pariahs,

Been holding on to a few fears,

Still occasionally crying a few tears,

Do or do not do, there is no try,

Something awful has befallen the elder of her other two sons,

It could easily have been either one,

Only a week or so since we spoke on the phone,

Cracking jokes, philosophising, or having a moan,

Hard to believe it’s the last day,

That if we ever see each other again,

It’ll have to be on the other side,

Felt it when grandfathers and grandmothers died,

But this time the waves inside don’t gently slide,

This feels more like a riptide.

When will the pain subside?As the sun declines,
